LED Strip Lighting, Isle of Man

Under-cabinet, plinth, cove and garden room lighting

LED Strip Lighting

Trafford Electrical installs LED strip lighting across the Isle of Man. We fit under-cabinet and plinth lighting in kitchens, cove lighting in roof lanterns, alcove and media wall lighting, stair lights and lighting for garden rooms, planned around your layout. We give you a free quote first.

LED strip lighting changes how a room feels. Under-cabinet strips light your worktops properly, plinth lighting adds a warm glow at floor level, and cove lighting turns a roof lantern into a feature after dark.

We assess your needs and plan where the lighting should go, how it will be switched or dimmed, and where the drivers will sit so they are hidden but still accessible.

We have fitted LED strips in kitchens, living room alcoves and media walls, roof lanterns, staircases, loft rooms, garden rooms and outdoor canopies across the island.

If your kitchen feels dark or you want a warmer feel in your home, get in touch. We will suggest options and give you a free quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

LED Strip Lighting Questions

What areas do you cover?

We are based in Peel and cover the whole Isle of Man, including Douglas, Ramsey, Castletown, Port Erin, Onchan, St John's and Port St Mary.

How long have you been trading?

Trafford Electrical Services Ltd was established in 2022. Alex, our director, has been in the electrical trade for more than 10 years across domestic, commercial and agricultural work.

Are you qualified and registered?

Alex is 18th Edition qualified and holds the 2391 Inspection and Testing qualification, and we are a NAPIT approved contractor (registration number 66787). Every job is tested and certified.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes. We offer 24-hour emergency call-outs for when things go wrong. Our normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. All labour comes with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, and materials are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. We also carry £2 million public liability insurance.

How do I get a quote and how do I pay?

Call, email or WhatsApp us, ideally with a few photos. Quotes are free and valid for 30 days. Payment is due on completion by bank transfer, and larger jobs may need a deposit to cover materials.

Do you do commercial and agricultural work?

Yes. Alongside domestic work we take on commercial, industrial and agricultural jobs, including farm workshops, high-bay lighting and three-phase installations, and we can work out of hours to reduce disruption.

Do you install CCTV and security systems?

Yes. We install CCTV, intruder alarms, access control, door entry and smart security systems, and we can repair CCTV systems.

Do you carry out electrical condition reports (EICRs)?

Yes. Alex holds the 2391 Inspection and Testing qualification, and we carry out electrical installation condition reports for homes and businesses. The report shows the condition of your wiring and anything that needs attention, so you only pay for work that is needed.

Do you take on smaller jobs?

Yes. Alongside larger projects we take on smaller jobs such as new lighting, extractor fans and socket replacements. Get in touch and we will let you know when we can fit you in.

How long does it take to replace a consumer unit?

Typically one to two hours, plus testing, for a standard domestic installation. Larger boards or homes with faults on existing circuits can take longer, and we will tell you up front if we expect that.

How much does a consumer unit upgrade cost?

It depends on the size of the board, how many circuits you have and what is involved on the day. We look at your existing board and give you a free quote before we start.

How do I know if my fuse board needs replacing?

Common signs are rewireable fuses, no RCD protection, a wooden backboard, or a board that keeps tripping. A condition report will confirm it, and we can carry one out for you.

Will my power be off all day?

No. The power is off while we swap the board and test, usually a couple of hours for a typical home. We will let you know roughly how long before we start.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes. Every consumer unit we fit is tested and you receive a certificate for the work, which is worth keeping for insurance and when you come to sell.

Can you fit surge protection?

Yes. Surge protection is often recommended with a new board, and we can include it in your quote.

Are you able to make my heating more controllable?

Yes, with the installation of a smart thermostat. You can set schedules, adjust the temperature from your phone and stop heating an empty house.

Which heating systems do you work on?

We wire and repair the electrical side of gas and oil heating systems, including wiring centres, programmers, thermostats, valves, pumps and cylinders.

My heating has stopped working. Can you find the fault?

Yes. If the problem is electrical, such as a failed valve, pump, programmer or wiring fault, we can trace it and repair it.

Can you work with my plumber or heating engineer?

Yes. We can handle the electrics while your plumber or heating engineer handles the pipework.

How much does heating controls work cost?

It depends on your system and what you would like done. We give you a free quote once we know what you have.

Are you able to reduce my electrical energy usage bills?

Providing you have the right size of roof for solar panels, we can design a system to get the most out of your space and reduce what you buy from the grid.

Are you able to work out how much I can potentially save and the payback period of an install?

Yes. We calculate the potential savings and grid dependency of your installation so you can see the payback period before you decide.

How much does solar and battery storage cost?

It depends on the number of panels, the battery size and how the array is mounted. We give you a free quote after assessing your property.

Do I need a battery?

Not always, but a battery lets you store daytime solar power and use it in the evening, which usually increases how much of your own power you use.

Can you install solar on a barn or in a field?

Yes. We have installed arrays on barn roofs and ground-mounted arrays in fields for agricultural customers.

What if my roof is not suitable?

We will tell you honestly. If your roof is too small or poorly orientated, a ground-mounted array may be an option, or solar may simply not be worth it for you.

What might require a property to be rewired?

Following a condition report, the condition of your installation can be assessed. Ageing installations may require rewiring if you have out-of-date fuse boards or still have black rubber cabling.

How much does a rewire cost?

It depends on the size of the property and the number of circuits; a partial rewire costs less. We give you a free quote after a visit.

How long does a rewire take?

It depends on the size of the property and whether it is occupied. We agree a timetable with you before we start and keep you updated as we go.

Can I stay in my home during a rewire?

Often, yes, particularly with a partial rewire. We plan the work room by room where we can and protect your belongings throughout.

Do you need to do a condition report first?

It is the best place to start. A condition report shows which circuits need work, so you only pay for what is needed.

Will there be mess?

Rewiring involves chasing walls, but we protect floors and furniture with dust sheets and tidy up at the end of each day.

What are the requirements for testing?

An annual inspection should be the bare minimum for commercial installations, covering full fire alarm and emergency lighting tests. Monthly maintenance contracts are also available.

How much does a fire alarm inspection cost?

It depends on the size of the system. We give you a free quote before we visit.

Do you work on addressable systems?

Yes. We work on both conventional and addressable fire alarm systems.

Can you repair or upgrade my fire alarm?

Yes. We carry out fault finding, repairs, panel and detector replacement, upgrades, extensions and commissioning.

Do you design new fire alarm systems?

Not at the moment. We inspect, test, repair, upgrade and extend existing systems, and commission new equipment.

Can you test outside business hours?

Yes. We can arrange testing out of hours to keep disruption to your business to a minimum.

I'm having a new kitchen fitted. Are you able to change the layout of my electrics?

Yes, not a problem. Once we've had a look at your current kitchen and the new plans, we can make the alterations needed.

How much do kitchen electrics cost?

It depends on the number of sockets, circuits and lights. We give you a free quote from your plans.

Do you work with kitchen fitters?

Yes. We work alongside kitchen fitters regularly and fit our first and second fix around their programme.

Can you fit a new cooker or hob circuit?

Yes. We install dedicated circuits for cookers, hobs and other high-power appliances.

Can you fit kitchen lighting?

Yes. We fit downlights, pendants, under-cabinet and plinth LED strips, and lighting for glass-fronted cabinets.

Do you also do bathrooms?

Yes. We carry out bathroom electrics too, including downlights, extractor fans, LED mirrors and electric towel rails.

Are you able to make my kitchen brighter with under-cabinet lighting?

Depending on your current layout, it could be beneficial if you're struggling for work lighting above your worktops.

I would like to improve the lighting in my home with strip lights.

We can assess your needs and come up with a plan for how to create a warmer feel in your home.

How much does LED strip lighting cost?

It depends on the length of strip and how it is controlled. We give you a free quote first.

Can LED strips be dimmed?

Yes, with the right driver and controls. We will recommend options when we plan your lighting.

Can you fit LED lighting outside or in a garden room?

Yes. We have fitted LED lighting in garden rooms and outdoor canopies, and on staircases.

Where do the drivers go?

We hide them out of sight, usually in a cupboard or above the units, while keeping them accessible for the future.
